Never thought I’d become a published author!
If you had asked me a few years ago if I ever thought I’d become an author, I probably would have laughed. Writing a book seemed like a far-off dream, and while tarot has always been close to my heart, I never imagined that this passion would lead to the creation of my own tarot modality. Yet here I am, an author and the creator of "The Tarot Tells," a unique approach to tarot that focuses on patterns, themes, clusters, and the positioning of the cards. In essence it is the environment that the cards find themselves in. It is reading the reading within the reading.
A Lifelong Connection with Tarot
My relationship with tarot began many years ago. A flippant comment made by my Nana to get me to do what she wanted me to do in that moment. It started as a simple curiosity, something intriguing about the cards and their symbolism drew me in. Over time, this curiosity deepened into a genuine connection. The cards became a tool for guidance and reflection, helping me—and those I read for—navigate life's complexities. Tarot wasn’t just a hobby; it was a part of me. But even as I became more involved with tarot, the thought of writing a book was never on my radar.
Discovering the "Tells"
The journey to creating "The Tarot Tells" wasn’t a sudden revelation. It was a gradual process, a slow unfolding of ideas that began to form a cohesive whole. As I continued to read for myself and others, I noticed certain patterns emerging in the cards. These weren’t just random coincidences; they were consistent themes, clusters of cards that seemed to tell a story when positioned in certain ways.
I began to pay closer attention to these patterns, to the way certain cards interacted with one another and how their placement within a spread influenced the overall reading. Over time, these observations became more refined, and I realized that these "tells" were offering deeper insights into the situations at hand. I had stumbled upon something unique—an approach to tarot that focused on the subtle nuances of card positioning and the themes that emerged from them. I felt that this approach was adding yet another layer to readings.
Embracing the Challenge of Writing
Even with this new understanding, the idea of writing a book was intimidating. I doubted whether I could effectively put into words the intricacies of what I had discovered. Who was I to create a new tarot modality? Would it even be accepted by the tarot community?
So, I started to “test” this information by adding it into my general teaching practices. The feedback I was receiving was that it was helping the readings make more sense! That it was helping my students to see things more objectively and more openly. Great! I was truly on to something. Yes, these doubts lingered, but the desire to share "The Tarot Tells" with the world was stronger. I knew that I had something valuable to offer—a fresh perspective on tarot that could help others deepen their understanding of reading and open up a new layer to reading.
So, I took the plunge. Once I started writing it just seemed to surprisingly flow. I certainly didn’t expect that. I wondered why I had been so hesitant in the first place. I felt like I was on the right path. As the pages began to fill, I found my voice. The words flowed more naturally, and with each chapter, I became more convinced that this was something I was meant to do.
There was a healing in the writing and telling of my story
One thing that happened that I was completely surprised by was just how healing this writing was for me. Writing "The Tarot Tells" was more than just a creative endeavour; it became a deeply healing process for me. As I delved into the nuances of tarot, exploring the patterns and themes that emerged in the cards, I found myself reflecting on the patterns and themes of my own life. In doing so, I began to confront some long-buried childhood traumas that I had carried with me for years. The act of writing allowed me to process these experiences, to understand them in a new light, and to begin the healing journey that I didn’t realize I needed.
This healing didn’t stop with me; it extended into my relationships with my family. As I wrote and explored my own feelings, I found myself more open to understanding the perspectives of those closest to me. The insights I gained from creating "The Tarot Tells" enriched my connections with certain family members, allowing me to rebuild and strengthen relationships that had been strained for years. Writing this book wasn’t just about sharing a new tarot modality—it was about finding peace within myself and fostering deeper bonds with the people I love.
The Birth of "The Tarot Tells"
"The Tarot Tells" isn’t just a book; it’s the culmination of years of study, observation, and practice. It’s about understanding the subtle patterns and themes that emerge in a tarot reading and recognizing the significance of card positioning. By paying attention to these details, readers can gain deeper insights and unlock the stories hidden within the cards.
Looking back, I’m amazed at the journey that brought me here. I never thought I’d become an author or create my own tarot modality, but life has a way of surprising us. I’m grateful for every step of this path, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.
